The Watchmen of Israel Stay Vigilant and Active on Lebanon, Iran and Gaza

As Israel faces mounting threats on multiple fronts, from Lebanon to Gaza and beyond, the nation’s security rests on the shoulders of its sons and daughters in uniform. IDF soldiers, and especially the reservists who leave behind careers, studies, spouses, and young children at a moment’s notice, embody a quiet heroism, standing guard over their people with resolve and sacrifice.

Lebanon Front

In an effort to deter Hezbollah from joining Iran in a broader confrontation, the IDF has intensified operations in Lebanon in recent days, aiming to degrade the terror organization’s military capabilities should it choose to enter a regional war.

Israel’s defense establishment has confirmed that the IDF has stepped up the pace of airstrikes in Lebanon as part of their  broader preparations for the possibility of regional escalation with Iran, according to a report Monday evening by Israeli journalist Nir Dvori. The objective is to preemptively reduce Hezbollah’s military assets, backed and armed by Tehran, that could be deployed against Israel if the group joins a future conflict.

The strikes have focused on rocket launchers, weapons depots, and operatives in the field. Yesterday, the IDF Spokesperson announced the elimination of a fifth Hezbollah terrorist in the past week. According to the statement, the operative served as a local representative of the organization in the village of Tayr Harfa in southern Lebanon and was responsible for coordinating military and financial matters with residents. The IDF noted that his activities constituted a violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon.

Alongside the military developments, Lebanese media report intensive diplomatic contacts with Washington in an attempt to prevent further escalation. The newspaper Ad-Diyar reported that officials in Beirut are engaging with the U.S. ambassador to Lebanon in an effort to define red lines and restrain IDF military activity.

The Threat from Iran

These developments come against the backdrop of renewed diplomatic maneuvering between Washington and Tehran. A second round of indirect nuclear talks between the United States and Iran mediated by Oman in Geneva, concluded after three hours of discussions. Representing the American side were envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, while Iran was represented by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and senior diplomats from Tehran, with the Omani Foreign Minister serving as mediator. Araghchi claimed that “understandings on key issues” had been reached and that the sides would begin drafting a framework for a potential agreement, though significant issues remain unresolved.

At the same time, Iran signaled military resolve. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that parts of the Strait of Hormuz would be temporarily closed during a military exercise. Its naval commander declared that while an aircraft carrier is dangerous, “more dangerous is the weapon capable of sending it to the bottom of the sea.”

Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei also mocked former President Donald Trump, asserting that the United States had failed for 47 years to topple the Islamic Republic and would not succeed now. Trump, speaking aboard Air Force One, said the talks were “very important,” expressing hope that Iran would “act rationally” and warning of consequences should negotiations fail.

Fighting in Gaza

Meanwhile, on the southern front, IDF forces continue operations against Hamas in Rafah.

During an operation to dismantle underground terrorist infrastructure, troops from the 7th Brigade Combat Team under the Gaza Division, 143, located a cache of weapons intended for use by Hamas operatives from the Rafah Brigade. The cache included numerous firearms, an RPG rocket, and an explosive device designed to target IDF soldiers operating in the area.

IDF troops are continuing to eliminate terrorists, destroy subterranean infrastructure, and secure the “yellow line” in southern Gaza in accordance with existing agreements. Over the past week, several Hamas operatives were killed during encounters with Israeli forces in eastern Rafah.

Subsequent searches in the underground routes confirmed that three terrorists were killed in direct engagements and six additional operatives were eliminated as part of ongoing operations to neutralize threats in the tunnels.

Two days ago, the IDF eliminated terrorist Ahmad Bayouk, who took part in the infiltration into Israel and accompanying massacres on October 7.

Taken together, these parallel developments in Lebanon, Iran, and Gaza underscore the volatile regional landscape confronting Israel. While diplomats in Geneva discuss frameworks and red lines, Israeli forces remain engaged on multiple fronts.

In these uncertain days, the vigilance of Israel’s defenders is more than a military necessity, it is the living fulfillment of an ancient promise. The prophet Isaiah declared, “On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have appointed watchmen; all day and all night, they shall never be silent” (Isaiah 62:6). Today, those watchmen wear olive drab and carry modern arms, yet their calling is timeless. As they stand along Israel’s borders and in its cities, they guard not only a nation, but a covenantal hope that has endured through the generations.
