Argentine President Javier Milei praised Trump and Netanyahu in unusually strong terms during his latest appearance in New York. Milei said he was grateful that President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had welcomed him among their friends and partners. Argentine reporting described the remarks as another public affirmation of the close relationship Milei has built with both leaders.

The comments came shortly before Milei met Netanyahu at UN headquarters on Thursday. Argentina’s presidency confirmed the bilateral meeting, which closed Milei’s New York visit. Netanyahu’s office thanked Milei for what it described as his firm support for Israel, while Israeli UN Ambassador Danny Danon publicly welcomed him as a friend of the Jewish state.

Ecclesiastes 4:12 says that “a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” The verse speaks to strength created through partnership. Milei’s foreign policy increasingly places Argentina alongside Washington and Jerusalem on terrorism, Iran, Israel’s security and what his government describes as the defense of Western democratic values.

Milei Praises Trump and Netanyahu as Ties Deepen

The relationship is not limited to personal rhetoric. Milei has made stronger ties with Israel a prominent part of Argentine foreign policy since taking office. During his April visit to Israel, he met Netanyahu and promoted closer strategic cooperation between Argentina, Israel and other Latin American governments. Israeli President Isaac Herzog also awarded Milei the Presidential Medal of Honor for his public support for Israel and the Jewish people.

That support has continued during the current UN session. Before meeting Netanyahu, Milei received the Ohev Yisrael award from Yeshiva Darchei Torah in New York. Argentina’s presidency said the honor recognized his support for the Jewish people and opposition to antisemitism.

The latest remarks also build naturally on “Milei UN Speech Defends Israel, Escalates Falklands Claim.” In that address, Milei criticized what he described as inconsistent treatment of Israel by international institutions. He also pressed Argentina’s own sovereignty claim over the Falkland Islands, showing how his government links foreign policy to broader arguments about sovereignty and institutional credibility.

Milei’s alignment with Washington is similarly concrete. His government designated Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization earlier this year, a move Reuters described as bringing Argentina closer to U.S. security policy. Argentina has also expanded restrictions against other organizations it classifies as terrorist groups.

Argentina’s Jewish History Gives the Alliance Added Weight

Argentina’s relationship with Israel carries a history that makes the current alignment more than diplomatic symbolism. Buenos Aires is home to Latin America’s largest Jewish community, according to Milei’s government. Argentina also endured the 1992 bombing of the Israeli Embassy and the 1994 AMIA Jewish community center bombing, which killed 29 and 85 people respectively.

Argentine courts and government officials have linked those attacks to Hezbollah and Iranian state actors. Milei has repeatedly invoked that history when explaining his policy toward Tehran and his support for Israel. His government designated the IRGC and Quds Force as terrorist organizations while presenting the pursuit of accountability for the AMIA attack as a continuing national commitment.

That history also creates common ground with the United States. Washington has long treated Hezbollah and the IRGC as major counterterrorism concerns, while Israel confronts Iranian-backed organizations much closer to its borders. Argentina’s current policy therefore places a major Latin American country inside a security conversation once concentrated largely in Washington, Jerusalem and the Middle East.

The partnership still reflects three separate countries with distinct interests. Argentina has its own economic priorities and territorial disputes, while Washington and Jerusalem do not agree on every regional question. Milei’s rhetoric nevertheless makes clear that he wants Argentina positioned politically closer to both governments.

Alliance, Memory and National Responsibility

Israel’s covenantal identity places Jewish continuity, sovereignty and the protection of Jewish life at the center of national responsibility. After centuries without sovereign power and repeated attacks on Jewish communities, the ability of the Jewish state to defend its citizens carries particular historical weight.

America’s political tradition is distinct, but it has often used covenantal language connecting liberty, national responsibility and accountability before God. Argentina has its own national story, yet Milei frequently describes his foreign policy through moral categories involving freedom, democracy, terrorism and Western civilization.

The significance of his relationship with Trump and Netanyahu therefore extends beyond personal friendship. It reflects an effort to build closer cooperation among governments that currently share positions on Iran, terrorism, antisemitism and Israeli security.

For Israelis, Milei’s support stands out during a period of intense diplomatic criticism. While Washington, Argentina offers a Latin American partner increasingly aligned with U.S. counterterrorism and security policy. For Argentina’s Jewish community, the relationship also sits against the much deeper memory of terrorism on Argentine soil.

Milei’s latest remarks reinforce the direction he has already chosen for Argentine foreign policy. Whatever language he uses to describe Trump and Netanyahu personally, the measurable development is the expanding political and security alignment among Buenos Aires, Washington and Jerusalem.
