The Jordanian government announced today (Wednesday) a full prohibition on the activities of the Muslim Brotherhood movement within the country. The decision follows the recent uncovering of a terror cell operating in the kingdom last week. According to officials, the cell was affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood and inspired by Hamas.

“A threat to the kingdom”

Jordanian Interior Minister Mazen Al-Faraya said that the group’s continued presence and activity harm the kingdom. He confirmed that the government will enforce the court ruling banning the organization from operating in Jordan.

Planned Serious Attacks

Minister Al-Faraya accused the Muslim Brotherhood of involvement in establishing a terror cell that had been planning major attacks. He noted that during the investigation, it was discovered that members of the group destroyed documents proving their connection to the network. “The continued activities of members of this organization threaten the security of the state and its citizens,” the minister said.

Rocket and UAV Production

As previously reported, Jordanian intelligence announced last week that it had dismantled a network of 16 operatives. According to the statement, their goal was “to harm national security and damage property within the kingdom.” The cell had reportedly planned to destabilize the country by producing rockets and UAVs inside Jordan. A video released by the Jordanian government revealed that the group’s founder had received training in Lebanon.
