Israel Seeks to Extend the First Phase to Continue to Free Hostages; Will Hamas Agree?

Hamas Rejects the Proposal

According to a report today (Friday) by Reuters, citing two Egyptian security sources, the Israeli delegation currently in Cairo is pushing to extend the first phase of the hostage deal with the Hamas terror organization by another 42 days.

Hamas, however, has rejected the proposal, insisting instead on moving directly to the second phase of the hostage deal. Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts continue, with Egypt, Qatar, and the United States mediating in an attempt to bridge the gaps between the parties and achieve long-term stability.

An Israeli official responded to the Reuters report, stating: “Our goal is indeed to extend Phase 1.” The official did not confirm whether the extension would specifically be for 42 days.

Israeli Delegation Dispatched to Cairo

As previously reported, yesterday the Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that an Israeli delegation had traveled to Cairo to negotiate a new hostage deal. According to reports, Israel aims to secure the release of additional living hostages as early as this coming Saturday.
