The IDF struck yesterday (Saturday) in the Beit Lahiya area of the northern Gaza Strip against a group of terrorists. One of the terrorists who was targeted had infiltrated Israeli territory during the deadly massacre on October 7.

The terrorists who were attacked had been operating a drone intended to facilitate terror plots against IDF fighters operating in the Gaza Strip. From the intelligence information regarding the terrorist activities in the area, it can be concluded that the drone was in continuous use by the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization, including at the time of its deployment.

Terrorists Disguised as Media Personnel

During the strike, several terrorists were eliminated, including those who operated disguised as media personnel:

  • Mustafa Muhammad Sha’aban Hammad, a Hamas terrorist who infiltrated Israeli territory during on October 7
  • Mahmoud Yahya Rashdi Al-Sarag, an Hamas terrorist engineer
  • Bilal Mahmoud Fuad Abu Matar, a Hamas terrorist operating under the guise of a photographer
  • Mahmoud Imad Hassan Aslim, a terrorist from Hamas’s Zaiton Battalions operating under the guise of a journalist
  • Suhaib Basem Khaled Najar, a terrorist from Islamic Jihad, released as part of the last hostage deal.
  • Muhammad Ala’a Subhi Al-Ghafir, a Hamas terrorist

An IDF spokesperson stated: “The IDF will continue to operate to eliminate any threat to the citizens of the State of Israel and to IDF forces.”

IDF Thwarted Smuggling of Weapons from Egypt to Gaza

Additionally, yesterday, IDF forces identified a drone attempting to smuggle weapons from Egypt into Israeli territory in the Paran Brigade area. The drone was shot down by IDF forces that reached the location. The forces discovered weapons of the Kalashnikov type. The IDF spokesperson stated: “The confiscated weapons were transferred for further processing by the Israel Police.”

The Ceasefire in Gaza

Earlier yesterday, three terrorists were identified in the Netzarim area, operating near IDF forces while attempting to plant explosives in the ground. The IDF spokesperson reported that “the IDF struck the terrorists,” but no details were provided regarding their condition.

Imposing Additional Sanctions on Gaza

Prime Minister Netanyahu, along with a small number of ministers, the negotiation team, and heads of the security establishment, convened an urgent discussion yesterday regarding the imposition of additional sanctions on Gaza. This follows Hamas’s refusal of U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff’s proposal for the release of hostages in exchange for a 40-day cease-fire.
At the end of the discussion, the Prime Minister instructed the negotiation team to “prepare for continued talks based on the mediators’ response to Witkoff’s proposal for the immediate release of 11 living hostages and half of the deceased.”

A Last Chance for Americans to Pressure Hamas and Promote a “Small Deal”

Among the measures being considered are the cessation of water supply to the Gaza Strip and stopping the transfer of wounded Gazans through the Rafah crossing. A security source stated that Israel has U.S. backing to carry out these actions, but there remains a possibility that the Americans will succeed in pressuring Hamas through mediation to promote a ‘small deal’ for the release of hostages.

Increasing Pressure on Hamas

The IDF presented a proposal in the security discussion to increase pressure on Hamas through renewed tiered airstrikes, artillery fire, and subsequently a possibility of limited ground maneuvers.
