Following Donald Trump’s inauguration for a second term, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took off for Washington early this morning (Sunday) to hold his first official meeting with the newly re-elected American president. Benny Gantz, leader of the National Unity Party, emphasized the significance of the discussions ahead, tweeting, “This meeting is of paramount importance for advancing the return of all our hostages, coordinating a response to the Iranian challenge, expanding normalization efforts, and eliminating Hamas rule.” Gantz has consistently called for national unity and solidarity in recent weeks, particularly following the release of freed hostages from Hamas captivity.

“The Entire Nation Stands Behind You”

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich also extended his best wishes to Netanyahu, urging him to stand firm in representing Israel’s security interests. “The entire nation of Israel stands behind you,” Smotrich stated. “For thousands of years, across many generations, countless warriors have sacrificed their lives for victory in this war. The bereaved families and thousands of wounded IDF soldiers – all of them expect you to represent our position faithfully.”
