During his diplomatic visit to Hungary today (Thursday), Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar met with Hungarian President Tamás Szili at the presidential palace in Budapest.
“We Are One of the World’s Oldest Nations, The Hague Won’t Trample Our Rights”
The Foreign Minister strongly opposed the International Criminal Court (ICC), declaring: “Those who try to destroy our right to self-defense, like the actions of the ICC, must be opposed.” He invoked Israel’s historical resilience to underscore the importance of self-defense: “For 76 years, our enemies have sought to annihilate us militarily but failed. Now, they aim to undermine our ability to defend ourselves through other means. For 2,000 years, the Jewish people were defenseless, leading to the Holocaust and countless attacks throughout history. This vulnerability diminished us as a nation, but as one of the world’s oldest peoples, we will not allow anyone to strip us of our God-given right and duty to protect ourselves.”
Radical Islam: A Threat to Both Israel and Europe
Addressing the shared dangers posed by radical Islam, Sa’ar issued a stark warning about its growing strength: “The rise of radical Islam is not only dangerous to Israel but also to Europe. Extremist Islamists are already carrying out attacks on European soil. Israel stands on the frontlines of this battle due to our geographic proximity, but this is a war both Israel and European nations are fighting together.”
Sa’ar commended Hungary for its clarity and resolve in confronting this challenge: “Hungary knows how to distinguish between good and evil, unlike some other nations in Europe and the world that have lost this crucial ability.” In doing so, Sa’ar echoed the timeless warning of the prophets. “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.” – Isaiah 5:20. His statement emphasized the critical importance of shared vigilance and cooperation in combating this global threat and standing firm against moral confusion.
Israel’s Determination to Achieve All War Objectives
At the start of his visit, Sa’ar urged Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó to collaborate on key objectives, including securing the release of hostages, combating the Houthis, and opposing the ICC’s arrest warrants against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Galant. Sa’ar also briefed Szijjártó on Middle East developments, highlighting efforts to release hostages such as Omer Miron, a Hungarian citizen. He reaffirmed Israel’s determination to fulfill its war objectives: freeing hostages, dismantling Hamas’s military and governing capabilities, and eliminating all threats emanating from Gaza.

A Call for Hungary to Support Trump’s Actions
Regarding the Houthis, Sa’ar stressed the organization’s threat to maritime freedom in the Red Sea, which harms international trade and the global order. He called on Hungary to support President Trump’s recent decision to reinstate the Houthis as a terrorist organization, thereby imposing international sanctions. Sa’ar then expressed deep gratitude to Hungary for its steadfast support of Israel.
Sa’ar Condemns ICC Bias and Praises Hungary’s Support for Israel
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, during a joint statement with Hungarian President Tamás Szili, expressed gratitude for Hungary’s unwavering support for Israel on the international stage, calling the partnership “a bond between two proud, sovereign, and independent nations.” Sa’ar condemned the International Criminal Court (ICC), accusing it of anti-Semitism and undermining Israel’s right to self-defense: “The ICC is political and corrupt, targeting a democratic state while it fights terrorism in accordance with international law.”
He highlighted the ICC’s unprecedented focus on Israel, “the most threatened and attacked nation in the world,” calling it both legally and morally flawed. Sa’ar thanked Hungary for opposing the ICC arrest warrants against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Galant, while also acknowledging U.S. efforts under President Trump’s administration to counter the ICC’s actions. Sa’ar’s message reinforced Israel’s determination to defend its sovereignty and maintain its right to protect its citizens.
