Sa’ar E1 Response Rejects British Criticism

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar rejected British criticism of E1, defending Jewish rights in the Land of Israel and warning against pressure on Israel

Sa’ar E1 response drew a sharp line after Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar rejected remarks by the British Foreign Secretary regarding Israeli policy in the E1 area.

“I categorically reject the statement made by the British Foreign Secretary and the condescending tone of his remarks,” Sa’ar said.

He argued that the Jewish people have the right to live throughout the Land of Israel, just as British citizens have the right to live in London and across the United Kingdom. Sa’ar also pointed to the Balfour Declaration, which officially recognized the historic right of the Jewish people to reestablish their national home in the Land of Israel.

Leviticus says, “And the land shall not be sold in perpetuity, for the land is Mine.” In this dispute, the verse points to a deeper question than zoning or diplomacy. It speaks to land, inheritance, responsibility, and the limits of foreign powers trying to define a people’s historic home.

Sa’ar E1 Response

The E1 area sits east of Jerusalem, near Ma’ale Adumim. Britain and several other governments have long opposed Israeli building there, arguing that it would harm prospects for a future Palestinian state.

Sa’ar answered from a different frame. He said Britain’s own history makes its criticism absurd. According to Sa’ar, Britain still controls territories thousands of kilometers from its shores, yet now lectures Jews about where they may live in their small historic homeland.

He said the Jewish connection to the land is more extensively documented than that of any other people in human history. His argument placed E1 inside a broader claim: Jewish life in the Land of Israel is not a foreign implant, but a return to ancestral geography.

That language will resonate strongly inside Israel’s national camp. It also challenges the British position by invoking Britain’s own role in the Balfour Declaration and the modern diplomatic history of Zionism.

Britain, Antisemitism And Israel Policy

Sa’ar also tied British policy to rising antisemitism in the United Kingdom. He said the British government’s systematic approach places blame only on Israel while ignoring Palestinian extremism.

According to Sa’ar, that policy has already contributed to “a massive wave of antisemitic hatred and attacks against the Jewish community in Britain.” He warned that continuing the same approach would worsen the situation.

The statement then moved from criticism to warning. “The decision by the British government to harm the relations between our countries is very regrettable,” Sa’ar said. “However, Israel will not be a passive victim of this policy.”

The E1 issue also connects naturally to “Judea And Samaria Law Enforcement Plan Ordered By Katz.” That article addressed Israel’s effort to shift civilian law enforcement activity in Judea and Samaria under a new plan ordered by Defense Minister Israel Katz. Both stories deal with the same broader arena: who exercises authority, law, and sovereignty in the historic heartland of Israel.

Covenant Of Homeland And Courage

The United States and Israel carry separate covenantal missions before God, but both know that national identity cannot survive if others define its borders, history, and legitimacy. America’s covenantal tradition grew around liberty, self-government, and resistance to distant powers deciding the fate of a people. Israel’s covenant is older and more specific: Torah, land, peoplehood, Jerusalem, and the return of Jewish sovereignty after generations of exile.

That is why Sa’ar’s response goes beyond one British statement. It touches a recurring struggle over whether Jewish rights in the Land of Israel will be treated as ancient and legitimate, or as conditional and negotiable under foreign pressure.

Britain’s criticism may reflect its diplomatic position. Sa’ar’s answer reflects Israel’s national memory. The tension between those views will continue to shape Israel’s relationship with Europe, the United States, and the wider debate over Judea and Samaria.

Sa’ar’s message was blunt: Britain can criticize Israel, but it cannot erase the Jewish people’s historic claim. Israel will answer foreign pressure with its own language of sovereignty, memory, and national dignity.
