Last night (Monday), PM Benjamin Netanyahu held a press conference for the Israeli media. Netanyahu expressed condolences to the families of the 7 soldiers, heroes of Israel, who had fallen in the last 24 hours in Gaza and Southern Lebanon. This current war is considered in Israel to be just and essential to ensure the existence of the State of Israel.
“Citizens of Israel,” said Netanyahu, “yesterday, we had a new chapter, a dramatic chapter in the history of the Middle East…Assad’s regime in Syria, a key link in the Iranian axis has collapsed after 58 years. Iran has invested many billions of dollars in Syria and it has all collapsed. It was a tyranny, it was brutal…for us, it cultivated hostility and animosity against us…It was a front for Iran and transported arms to Hezbollah.”
He continued, “Now we all understand the great importance of our being there in the Golan Heights and not at the bottom. Our control of the Golan Heights secures our safety and security and I would like to thank my friend President-Elect Donald Trump, my friend, who has acknowledged Israel’s sovereignty in the Golan Heights.” As Netanyahu expressed, there is optimism in Israel that the Trump Administration will better enable Israel to ensure its security than the Biden Administration did.
President of Israel, Isaac Herzog said today that Trump’s words threatening that the hostages had better be released before his inauguration have already brought about a significant change in negotiations.
“Citizens of Israel. Assad’s collapse is a direct result of the blows that have been delivered to Hezbollah, Iran, and Lebanon. We have more challenges in this war. Since the horrendous attack on October 7th we have been working methodically and systematically. It didn’t happen on its own…” Netanyahu is emphasizing his role in the remarkable changes in the region because while the media is quick to blame him for anything that goes wrong, they do not often give him credit for successes.
“The State of Israel is establishing itself as a focus point of power and strength. If anyone is collaborating with us, they can win. If they do not collaborate with us, they will lose. We want to see them with us. We have proven what we can do when we built a field hospital for Syrians at the beginning of the war. 600 Syrian babies were born in Israel.” Netanyahu is offering the Syrians the opportunity to work together with Israel to better their own lives and the situation in the Middle East. His words are remarkably reminiscent of the Biblical verse: “I will bless those who bless you, and curse the one who curses you, and all the families of the earth shall bless themselves by you.” (Genesis 12:3).
Netanyahu referred to the Biden Administration and others who tried to pressure him to stop the war already a while ago. He said, “Please think, if we had listed to those who said time after time we have to stop the war, we would have gone into Rafah, we would not have taken over the Philadephi Corridor, we would not have killed Sinwar, we would not have surprised our enemies around the world in our bold operation in the North, we would not have killed Nasrallah, destroyed Hezbollah’s underground infrastructure, and we would not shown Iran’s weakness.”
Netanyahu continues, “I insisted on withstanding the pressure, not to surrender until we reach total victory. The total victory that people have mocked is now becoming reality.” He mentions all the recent victories and how they are leaving Hamas more isolated than ever. He says that this will open a possibility for a hostage deal.
Netanyahu concludes, “The people of Israel will not give up…I am full of hope and full of faith in this wonderful nation. With God’s help, Israel will remain for eternity.
