New Military Secretary
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has appointed Brig. Gen. Guy Markizano as his new military secretary. He replaces Maj. Gen. Roman Gofman.
The role is one of Israel’s most sensitive security positions. The military secretary connects the prime minister, the IDF, and Israel’s security establishment.
IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi spoke with Markizano and congratulated him.
“He wished him great success,” the IDF Spokesperson stated.
Markizano comes to the role after serving as military secretary to Defense Minister Israel Katz. He has served in the IDF for more than two decades. His senior roles included positions in the Artillery Corps, Northern Command, and Ground Forces.
Trusted Under Pressure
Defense Minister Israel Katz also congratulated Markizano. He praised the officer who worked alongside him during a period of intense security pressure.
“Over the past year and a half, I had the privilege of working alongside Brig. Gen. Guy Markizano, shoulder to shoulder, for long hours, during complex moments and the greatest security challenges the State of Israel has known,” Katz said.

Katz called him “an exceptional officer and commander, a true professional, with composure, sound judgment and the ability to make the right decisions even under the heaviest pressures.”
That is the heart of the appointment.
In wartime Israel, the military secretary does not hold a ceremonial role. The position demands trust, judgment, discretion, and steady contact with Israel’s top security decisions.
From Katz to Netanyahu
Markizano now moves from the defense minister’s office to the prime minister’s inner security circle.
He replaces Maj. Gen. Roman Gofman, who will lead the Mossad.
The transition places Markizano at the center of Israel’s national security chain. It comes as Israel faces threats from Iran, Hezbollah, Hamas, and other enemies of the Jewish state.
For Netanyahu, the message is clear. Israel is bringing another battle-tested officer into the room where the country’s hardest decisions are made.
