Chairman of the National Unity Party, Benny Gantz, known for his frequent divergence from government policies, strongly endorsed the decision to keep IDF forces stationed in southern Lebanon. “The IDF must not withdraw from the buffer zone in Lebanon. It must continue and even intensify its actions against any Hezbollah violations, whether minor or severe,” Gantz declared. “We must ensure Lebanon fully upholds its obligations under the agreement.”
A Clear Message to Israel’s Adversaries
Gantz stressed the importance of prioritizing the security of Israel’s northern residents, asserting the government’s responsibility to protect communities along the border.
“We must insist on the safety of northern residents and ensure the threat to their communities does not resurface. Otherwise, we’ve learned nothing from October 7,” he warned. The statement underscores the necessity of demonstrating strength in the face of Hezbollah’s ongoing provocations.

Opposition Leaders Echo Support
Avigdor Lieberman, leader of the Yisrael Beiteinu Party, echoed Gantz’s sentiments, stating, “The IDF cannot leave Lebanon. The Lebanese side has violated the agreement. There is no real deployment of the Lebanese army along the border, nor is it capable of controlling or disarming Hezbollah. Withdrawal under these conditions would be a grave mistake, endangering the residents of northern Israel.”

National Unity on Security Issues
This collective stance from opposition leaders reflects a rare moment of bipartisan consensus on national security matters. The Bible teaches the importance of standing together against threats, as seen in the alliance between King Jehoshaphat of Judah and King Ahab of Israel. Despite their differing views and frequent disagreements, they united for the common good to confront the king of Aram, a mutual adversary. “So, the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah went up to Ramoth Gilead.” – 1 Kings 22:29.
The united demand from Gantz, Lieberman, and other opposition figures to maintain the IDF’s presence in Lebanon sends a clear signal to Israel’s adversaries. It demonstrates that Israel will not waver in enforcing the terms of its agreements or in safeguarding its people. This moment of unity underscores the nation’s steadfast resolve to confront threats and ensure the hard-earned lessons of history guide its actions today.
