Keir Starmer resigned as British prime minister after losing support inside the Labour Party, opening the door to a possible reset in Britain’s policy toward Israel.
The Tanakh teaches: “I will bless those who bless you” (Genesis 12:3). For Israel and its allies, that verse speaks to the moral weight of standing with the Jewish state, especially in moments of war, terror, and diplomatic pressure.
Starmer’s resignation came after months of political pressure and internal Labour unrest. According to Reuters, he said a new leader would be in place by the time Parliament returns in September.
A Difficult Period For Israel
Starmer’s time in office brought serious tension with Jerusalem.
Under his government, Britain formally recognized a Palestinian state in September 2025. Israel and many of its supporters viewed the move as a reward for pressure during the Gaza war.
Britain also took a tougher line toward Israel during the conflict. For many Israelis, that shift placed political pressure on the Jewish state while it was fighting Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran-backed threats.
That is why Starmer’s exit matters in Jerusalem. Israel will now watch closely to see whether Britain’s next leader restores balance, clarity, and friendship.
A Wider Pro-Israel Moment

The timing also stands out.
Just this morning, pro-Israel right-wing candidate Abelardo de la Espriella won Colombia’s presidential election. He pledged during his campaign to move Colombia’s embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.
Together, the two developments point to a larger trend. Anti-Israel leaders and anti-Israel policies are facing new pressure, while openly pro-Israel voices gain ground.
Shared Values Matter

For Israel and the United States, the lesson is clear. Alliances must rest on moral clarity, not fashionable hostility toward the Jewish state.
President Donald Trump has repeatedly emphasized strong borders, national sovereignty, and clear support for allies. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made the same case for Israel’s right to defend itself.
Britain now faces a choice. Its next leader can continue distancing London from Jerusalem, or rebuild a relationship rooted in democracy, security, and truth.
For Israel, the hope is simple: a Britain that remembers who its friends are.
