Karim Khan suspended: the ICC’s governing body has removed the court’s chief prosecutor from his duties amid sexual misconduct allegations, according to reports. Khan denies wrongdoing.
Khan became a central figure in Israel’s battle against hostile international legal action. He led the push for arrest warrants against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
Suspended in The Hague
The decision to suspend Khan marks a major development at the International Criminal Court.
Khan had already stepped away from his duties during the investigation. Now, the court’s governing body has suspended him while member states review the matter.
The allegations center on claims of sexual misconduct by a female staff member. Khan rejects the accusations. He has also argued that the process against him is unfair and lacks evidence.
The Israel Connection
For many Israelis, Khan became known for his legal campaign against Israel’s wartime leadership.
In May 2024, he announced that his office was seeking arrest warrants against Netanyahu and Gallant. His office also sought warrants against Hamas leaders.

The ICC later issued warrants against Netanyahu and Gallant in November 2024.
Khan’s warrant push targeted Netanyahu and Gallant as Israel’s wartime leadership faced intense international pressure over the campaign against Hamas.
Across much of Israel, the move caused outrage. Critics said the court created a false moral comparison between the elected leaders of the Jewish state and terrorist leaders.
That criticism grew stronger as Israel continued fighting to defend its citizens after the October 7 massacre.
Questions for the ICC
Khan’s suspension now adds pressure to a court already facing deep criticism from Israel and its allies.
The case does not erase the broader legal campaign against Israel. However, it raises serious questions about judgment, credibility and accountability inside the court.
For Israel, the development reinforces a larger argument. International institutions that claim to defend justice must also meet the standards they demand from sovereign nations fighting terrorism.
