Lindsey Graham, one of Israel’s strongest friends on Capitol Hill, died suddenly at the age of 71, prompting mourning across Israel and the United States.
Israeli leaders remembered the Republican senator from South Carolina as a firm ally of the Jewish state, a defender of the U.S.-Israel partnership, and a leading voice against Iran.
The Tanakh says, “A friend loves at all times.” For many Israelis, Graham’s friendship was not symbolic. He stood with Israel during war, terror, and diplomatic pressure.
Israel Mourns Graham
President Isaac Herzog wrote after hearing the news: “Senator Graham was a beacon of moral clarity and a true leader of the partnership between the United States and Israel.”
Herzog added: “We will never forget how he stood with the people of Israel in our most difficult moments, and we will always be grateful for the justice, truth, and loyalty he showed.”
Minister Aryeh Deri also paid tribute to Graham’s record.
“He stood courageously with Israel, fought uncompromisingly against the Iranian axis of evil and terrorism, and made a significant contribution to strengthening the firm alliance between Israel and the United States,” Deri said.
“The State of Israel has lost a true friend,” he added.
A Voice Against Iran

Graham was known for his firm opposition to Iran and its regional terror network.
He was also one of the most prominent voices urging President Donald Trump to strike Iran and impose serious costs on the regime.
That issue also gives new weight to “Lindsey Graham Wins Big After Iran War Backlash.” Senator Lindsey Graham won South Carolina’s Republican primary after facing criticism over his support for Israel and U.S. action against Iran.
For Israel, Graham’s death removes a powerful congressional advocate at a critical moment.
The Iranian threat remains active. Hezbollah, Hamas, the Houthis, and other Iranian-backed forces continue to threaten Israel and American interests across the region.
For the United States, Graham’s passing also carries strategic weight.
He represented a school of American foreign policy that believed U.S. strength protects allies, deters enemies, and serves the free world.
A Shared Moral Calling
The United States and Israel both benefited from Graham’s belief that their security interests are inseparable.
For Israel, that meant a senator who understood that defending the Jewish state also strengthens the West.
For America, it meant a lawmaker who saw Israel as a strategic ally and a moral partner in a dangerous region.
The United States and Israel also share a covenantal understanding before God.
America’s covenantal tradition rests on liberty under God, ordered justice, and moral responsibility. Israel’s covenant is older and unique. It rests on God’s promise, Jewish peoplehood, Torah, and the return to the land of Israel.
Those covenants are not identical. However, they meet in a shared calling: defend freedom, stand against tyranny, and protect innocent life from terror.
In that shared calling, Graham found one of the central missions of his public life. His death leaves a gap in Washington and a deep sense of gratitude in Jerusalem.
Israel will remember Lindsey Graham as a true friend who stood with the Jewish people when it mattered most.
