The unverified claim about Mojtaba Khamenei’s death is drawing attention amid wider questions about Iran’s leadership and internal power struggles.
An Iranian opposition activist claimed that Mojtaba Khamenei is dead and said he has strong evidence to support the allegation. However, no official Iranian source has confirmed the claim. In addition, major international outlets have not verified that Khamenei is dead.
The broader issue is the Islamic Republic’s culture of secrecy. The regime has long relied on controlled messaging, hidden decision-making, and information warfare to preserve power. That is why clarity matters. As Proverbs teaches, “Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment” (Proverbs 12:19). For Israel and its allies, the question is not whether every rumor is true. The question is how much Iran’s own opacity fuels uncertainty around its leadership.
Mojtaba Khamenei Claim Remains Unverified

According to the activist’s claim, OSINT researchers found unusual digital changes in early June. OSINT, or open-source intelligence, refers to analysis based on publicly available material.
The claim says managers and designers in Mojtaba Khamenei’s official office suddenly replaced their Mac computers with Windows systems.
The activist also claimed that PDF signatures on official documents issued under Khamenei’s name match documents from the office of Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf.
According to the allegation, the documents used the same design software version, the same document conversion library, and the same core metadata package.
What The Activist Claims
A well-known Iranian opposition activist known as “Siaxeres” claimed the pattern is not a coincidence.
“Khamenei is dead, and they needed his name to gain legitimacy from the Iranian public,” he claimed. “So they buried him, and now Qalibaf is running Iran directly from his office.”
At this stage, that remains an allegation. The metadata claims have not been independently verified. Therefore, they should be treated as speculation, not established fact.
Iran’s Leadership Questions
The claim comes as reports continue to raise questions about Iran’s leadership and negotiations with the United States.
That point also connects to the wider diplomatic picture. As previously covered in “U.S.-Iran Deal Faces Uncertainty As Tehran Points To Lebanon,” reports are raising questions over Iran’s participation in U.S.-Iran deal talks in Switzerland, as Tehran links the process to Israeli operations in Lebanon.
For Israel and its allies, the deeper issue is how Iran’s power structure actually functions. The regime’s closed inner circle often leaves analysts watching small signals, documents, and public absences for clues about who is making decisions in Tehran.
