Yuval Rafael, recently selected to represent Israel in the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest, has captured global attention, rising to second place on betting platforms ahead of the competition in Basel, Switzerland, this May. Rafael secured her spot after a stunning performance in the finale of the Israeli reality show, The Next Star, delivering captivating renditions of ABBA’s Dancing Queen and Sam Smith’s Writing’s on the Wall.

Survivor of the October 7th Massacre

Rafael, a 24-year-old from Ra’anana, is not just a talented singer but also a survivor of unimaginable tragedy. During the horrific October 7 Nova music festival massacre, she suffered shrapnel wounds and hid in a bomb shelter, known as the “shelter of death.” Pretending to be dead among the bodies, she miraculously escaped the brutal attack. God’s hand was upon her, saving her against all odds, as promised in the Bible: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.” – Isaiah 43:2. Her journey to Eurovision is not just a story of musical triumph but a profound testament to resilience, faith, and the indomitable Israeli spirit that shines even in the darkest of times.

Looking Ahead to Eurovision 2024

The Eurovision semi-final draw will take place next Tuesday in Malmö, Sweden, with the song Rafael will perform expected to be unveiled in early March. This year’s competition will feature 36 countries, including Albania, Cyprus, Montenegro, and the Netherlands, whose representatives have already been chosen. Moldova, however, announced its withdrawal due to economic and logistical challenges.

Rafael’s participation in Eurovision 2024 goes beyond music; it symbolizes hope and perseverance. Her voice, rising from the ashes of tragedy, now carries a message of strength and unity for Israel and the world.
