With a smile and much emotion, Doron Kuta, a reservist soldier injured during a battle in northern Israel, met face to face with the couple who saved his life.
“Even Under Live Fire”
During the war, which brought devastation to northern Israel, Dor and Hadar volunteered as Magen David Adom (MDA) paramedics and served as part of a frontline medical team. Residents of Moshav Ya’ara, located just 1.5 kilometers from the northern border, the couple chose to stay despite constant bombardment to provide life-saving medical care to soldiers and civilians alike.
The moshav was targeted frequently. Dor explained, “We kept an armored ambulance stationed at our home, always ready to respond to any call. We treated both soldiers and civilians, even under live fire.” Their courage and dedication exemplified unwavering faith and love for their community, even as they balanced their dangerous work with managing their family farm.

A Heartwarming Reunion of Gratitude
The couple’s story intersected with Doron’s on October 9, 2023, two days after the fighting began. The Shayan couple responded to a call to treat three wounded soldiers from Battalion 300, including Doron. They treated him and evacuated him to the hospital but had no further contact, unsure of his fate.
Months later, as the ceasefire allowed life to begin returning to normal, Doron, still recovering, returned to the site of his injury to thank the couple who saved his life. His emotional words deeply moved Hadar and Dor. “You saved me in the end. I am so happy to see you,” Doron said emotionally.
“We provided medical treatment to many injured, some of whom were critically wounded and unfortunately passed away from their injuries at the hospital. I’m so happy to see you’re okay; it gives so much hope and light,” Hadar shared. Dor added, “After everything we saw, everyone we treated, all the bombings, and the sleepless nights, seeing you standing on your feet gave me strength; you can’t imagine how much.”
Faith Amid Adversity
This powerful reunion is a testament to the courage and selflessness of those who serve and the resilience of the people of Israel. It reminds us of the biblical call to care for one another, even in the face of great danger: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.” – Leviticus 19:18
We stand in awe of such stories of bravery and faith, praying for the continued recovery of soldiers like Doron and for God’s protection over those who risk their lives to save others. Together, we celebrate the hope and strength that emerge even in the darkest times.
