Israel Considering Re-Arrest of Terrorists Released in Previous Deals, in Response to Hamas Refusal

Following Hamas’s refusal to advance a new hostage deal, one proposal on the table is the recapture and arrest of convicted Hamas terrorists released in previous agreements.

According to a report published  this evening (Sunday) by the N12 news site, Israel is weighing the possibility of re-arresting terrorists who were released in previous exchanges with Israeli hostages, as a counter move to Hamas’s refusal to move forward with another hostage deal.

Planned Operation to Bisect Gaza

At the same time, the IDF has in recent weeks been preparing for a major military maneuver that would divide Gaza City into two sections. According to a report by Walla news site, this move is expected to result in Hamas losing control over more than 50% of the territory in the Gaza Strip.

American Companies to Assist in Food Distribution

The maneuver is anticipated to be broad in its scale, requiring a significant call-up of reservists and a redeployment of forces from other sectors, including Lebanon and Judea and Samaria. As part of the operation, food distribution centers are expected to be established for the civilian population, with the assistance of American civilian companies. The goal would be to strip Hamas of its control over the population and deliver a blow to its governance capabilities.

Meanwhile, the IDF continues its intense fighting on three fronts—northern, southern, and central Gaza. Operations include the use of engineering vehicles to demolish buildings and Hamas’s underground tunnel systems, which are still extensive. Military sources report that the IDF has established control over approximately 40% of the territory, destroyed 1,300 targets, and killed more than 400 terrorists, including many senior operatives.

Hamas Leadership Caught Off Guard

According to the report, Hamas leaders were caught off guard by the IDF’s swift return to combat following the collapse of the ceasefire. At this stage, the organization is focusing on guerrilla tactics and preserving its remaining forces, using anti-tank fire, explosive devices, and snipers to target Israeli troops—while avoiding direct confrontation.

The IDF emphasized that military operations are guided by precise intelligence assessments to avoid endangering hostages. The goal of the military pressure is to bring Hamas back to the negotiating table.
