In a landmark shift to fortify Israel’s southern defenses, the IDF is doubling its forces along the Gaza border and implementing a robust operational framework to enhance residents’ sense of security. Journalist Almog Boker reports that two regular divisions will now protect the border, replacing the previous single-division strategy. In addition, 14 new outposts will be established, and the security perimeter will be significantly tightened to ensure a swift response to potential threats.

Under this upgraded strategy, the Gaza border will be divided into two sectors. The northern sector will be overseen by the 162nd Division, commanded by Brigadier General Itzik Cohen, while the southern sector will remain under the Gaza Division, led by Brigadier General Barak Hiram. Along the 65-kilometer border, new outposts will be constructed, with tightened open-fire regulations to reinforce Israel’s commitment to security.

The perimeter will be reduced to a 700-meter buffer zone, except for five strategic areas where a 1.2-kilometer distance will be maintained. This buffer zone has been declared a “kill zone,” with new open-fire instructions ensuring immediate and decisive action against any suspicious activity. This approach reflects a firm resolve to protect Israeli citizens from potential threats.

Security Officials: Trust Must Be Restored

Security officials in the Gaza border area have heard from senior IDF officers, including Southern Command Chief Major General Yaron Finkelman, that the army is fully committed to restoring security and trust to the region’s residents—trust that was severely damaged during the events of October 7.

Southern Command Chief Major General Yaron Finkelman assured local leaders and residents that the IDF is fully committed to restoring security and rebuilding the trust that was shaken during the events of October 7. The enhanced measures, which include a heightened military presence and strengthened defenses, send a powerful message to residents: “Your security is our top priority.”

Returning a sense of security to the residents of the south underscores God’s enduring promise of restoration, peace, and reassurance for His people. As the Bible declares: “My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in quiet resting places.” – Isaiah 32:18.
