Former Shin Bet Informant Turned Terrorist Indicted for Murder of 83-Year-Old Woman in Herzliya Attack

A chilling indictment was filed yesterday (Monday) against Ibrahim Shalhub, the terrorist who brutally murdered 83-year-old Ludmila Lipovsky in a horrific stabbing attack at a Herzliya shopping center last month. Shalhub, a 28-year-old resident of Tulkarem and former Shin Bet informant, faces charges of aggravated murder, terrorism, and illegal possession of a weapon.

Premeditated Terror with Nationalist Motive

The indictment reveals that Shalhub, after ceasing cooperation with Shin Bet and relocating to Israel, severed ties with his family and was driven by nationalist ideology to commit the attack. Two days prior, he purchased a knife and scouted the Herzliya shopping center for a suitable location. On December 27, he targeted 83-year-old Ludmila Lipovsky, who had stepped out of her assisted living residence to wait for her daughter, brutally stabbing her at least 11 times while shouting “Allahu Akbar” and praying in Arabic.

The brutal assault was only stopped when two security guards intervened, neutralizing Shalhub after he attempted further violence even while incapacitated.

Prosecution: A Clear and Present Danger

Prosecutors have requested Shalhub remain in custody, emphasizing the premeditated brutality of his actions, which they argue demonstrate an undeniable threat to public safety. They described the attack as a heinous act of terrorism warranting the maximum penalty under Israeli law, echoing the Biblical injunction: “Justice, and only justice, you shall follow, that you may live and inherit the land that the Lord your God is giving you.” – Deuteronomy 16:20

A Shin Bet Informant Turned Terrorist

Once a Shin Bet informant instrumental in dismantling terror networks in Judea and Samaria, Shalhub was relocated to Israel after his role was exposed.  The agency noted that Shalhub had been subjected to three prior administrative detentions, with the most recent ending in June 2024 due to medical reasons. Despite being under surveillance and investigation, monitoring ceased just two weeks before he carried out the brutal attack.

The Shin Bet stated that cases of rehabilitated informants committing acts of terror are extremely rare. This tragic incident highlights the ongoing challenges Israel faces in its fight against terrorism and underscores the importance of remaining vigilant in defending innocent lives and securing the nation.

May the memory of Ludmila Lipovsky be a blessing, and may justice be served swiftly and righteously.
