Dr. Mira Wollner, one of Israel’s senior oncologists, passed away this week at age 68 from cancer. Her colleagues remembered her as an inspiring physician who trained generations of doctors and kept serving patients even during her own illness.

A Doctor Until the End

According to colleagues who spoke with ynet, Dr. Wollner refused to leave the front line after discovering the disease. Even while undergoing difficult treatments, she continued coming to the department to help her patients.

“She continued coming to meetings, running a clinic, and responding to colleagues and patients,” they said. “Even during the final months of her hospitalization, she continued sending messages from her bed, offering solutions for complex cases, checking in, and helping, exactly as she always did.”

Her life’s work shaped Israeli medicine and the doctors who continue it.

She Kept Working

“The moment of her diagnosis was a shock,” her colleagues said. “She discovered the disease while working in the clinic. She felt unwell, went to get a CT scan, and kept working.”

As long as she had the strength, they said, she continued treating patients and being there for them.

“She knew what was coming, managed the illness and the treatment, and also knew when to say enough,” they added. “She never complained to anyone, did not want to burden anyone, and did not ask for much for herself.”

Remembered for Her Devotion

Dr. Wollner’s colleagues described her as a physician whose commitment did not end when she became a patient herself. Even as cancer weakened her body, she remained connected to the people who depended on her judgment, experience, and care.

Her final months showed the depth of that devotion. From her hospital bed, she continued answering questions, helping with complex cases, and supporting both patients and colleagues. For those who worked beside her, it was the same Dr. Wollner they had always known: present, focused, humble, and determined to help.

May her memory be a blessing.
