“Get Ready!” – Be Bold and Strong
After Moses passed away, Joshua became the new leader of the Israelites. It was a huge job—but God gave him a big message: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9) Now Joshua had to lead the people across the Jordan River into the Land of Israel!
A New Leader Steps Up
God spoke to Joshua and told him:
- “Every place where you set your foot will be yours.”
- “Be strong and courageous.”
- “Do not be afraid—I am with you wherever you go.”
Joshua told the people: “Get ready! In three days, we’re going to cross the Jordan River into the land God is giving us.”
Why Was Joshua Chosen?
Jewish writers say that Joshua didn’t become the leader just because he was brave. He was always helping Moses—setting up lessons, carrying supplies, listening carefully, and showing respect. He was humble and ready to serve.
Try This Thought:
Joshua didn’t try to be the star. He helped in quiet ways—and that’s what made him great.
Draw It:
Make a comic strip of “Joshua the Helper” getting ready for a Torah lesson. What is he learning just by being there?
What Does Strength Really Mean?
When God says “Be strong and courageous” three times, Jewish sources explain that each one means a different kind of strength:
-
-
- Body strength – to lead the people on the journey
- Heart strength – to make good choices and be brave
- Torah strength – to study and follow what’s right
-
- Activity:
- Make a “Strength Chart” with three sections:
-
-
-
-
- Something strong I can do with my body (like helping lift, walk, build).
- Something brave I can do with my heart (like telling the truth or helping a friend).
- Something wise I can do with Torah (like learning a verse or doing what’s right).
