Marking a significant shift in U.S. policy, newly inaugurated President Donald Trump has authorized the Pentagon to resume the supply of one-ton bombs to Israel, overturning restrictions imposed by the Biden administration several months ago.
1,800 MK-84 Bombs Approved for Immediate Shipment
According to reports from Israeli media, the Pentagon announced yesterday (Saturday) that the freeze on shipments of 907-kilogram bombs had been lifted. Approximately 1,800 MK-84 bombs, which had been sitting in U.S. storage for over six months, are now scheduled to be transferred to Israel. The munitions will be loaded onto a ship bound for Israel in the coming days, strengthening the IDF’s operational capabilities.
The freeze, initially implemented by the Biden administration, was part of a protest against IDF operations in Rafah. Concerns were raised over the use of these powerful bombs in densely populated areas in Gaza, citing potential risks to civilian lives. In contrast, the Trump administration has prioritized Israel’s right to defend itself and counter terrorist threats, removing restrictions that impeded its military readiness.
Although Israel desires peace, it is important to remain prepared for war. After David’s shepherds are spurned by Nabal, he tells his men: “Each of you strap on your sword!” So they did, and David strapped his on as well.” – 1 Samuel 25:13. Just as David understood the need for readiness to face threats, so too must Israel maintain vigilance and strength to safeguard its people and secure its future.
Trump’s Pro-Israel Leadership
President Trump has demonstrated unwavering support for Israel’s security. Last month, he pledged to lift the arms embargo and accelerate defense cooperation with Israel. This policy change follows a series of pro-Israel decisions by the new administration, including the immediate halt of U.S. funding to UNRWA on his first day in office.
Israelis have welcomed this renewed commitment, viewing it as a restoration of trust and alignment between the two nations. With these strategic munitions en route to Israel, the partnership between the U.S. and Israel is further strengthened, reinforcing both nations’ commitment to combating terrorism and safeguarding democratic values in the region.
