Military AG Rules on Gaza Cases: MP to Probe Hind Rajab’s Death, Tel al-Sultan Incident
A decision was made to open a Military Police investigation into the death of the girl Hind Rajab and an ambulance crew in Gaza in January 2024, after failures were found in coordinating the movement of the ambulance that was fired upon.
Another criminal investigation that has been opened concerns an incident in Tel al-Sultan in March 2025, in which 15 Palestinians and medical teams were killed by fire in an ambush on a fire truck, ambulances, and a UN vehicle. Following the incident, the deputy commander of the Golani Reconnaissance Unit was removed from his position, and a command-level reprimand was issued to the commander of the 14th Brigade.
In contrast, the case concerning the death of seven WCK workers in Deir al-Balah in April 2024 was closed without a criminal investigation, after it was determined that the mistaken identification of the convoy’s security guards as Hamas operatives did not cross the criminal threshold. On the command level, the brigade’s fire support commander, a Major, and the brigade’s chief of staff, a Colonel in the reserves, were dismissed. The brigade commander, the commander of Division 162, and the head of the Southern Command were formally reprimanded.
Additionally, two incidents in which workers from the organization Doctors Without Borders (MSF) were killed were closed without a criminal investigation. In an incident in Khan Younis, a shell was fired at a building that threatened the force, without up-to-date information that it was an MSF facility. It was determined that the strike was carried out for a military purpose, but command-level measures will be examined. In the second incident, it was determined that the deaths of two of the organization’s workers were likely caused by shrapnel from warning shots fired toward the road, not by direct fire, while the convoy was moving without coordination.
