Air Canada Resumes Long-Awaited Flights to Israel

Air Canada announced today (Thursday) that it will renew direct flights between Israel and Canada, after months of suspension. The decision came following a meeting between Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar and Canada’s Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly during the Munich Conference last weekend, during which Sa’ar requested action to restore flights between the two countries.

The Air Canada announcement joins the decisions of several other airlines that have gradually resumed flights on the Tel Aviv-international destinations route, as a result of both improvements in the security situation and a growing demand among passengers.

Step Towards Cheaper Flights to the U.S. and Canada

A month ago, the Israeli government approved a proposal by the Ministries of Transportation and Finance to provide assistance to airlines expanding their operations to destinations in North America. The goal is to encourage market competition, strengthen business ties with the U.S. and Canada, increase the number of flights, and reduce costs for travelers. The total budget allocated by the government for the initiative is 15 million shekels.
According to the government decision, this initiative will benefit airlines operating regular and direct flights using wide-body aircraft between Israel and the U.S. or Canada. To qualify, the airlines will be required to increase their operations to these destinations by at least two weekly flights per destination compared to the last quarter of 2024.

The resumption of direct flights between Canada and Israel by Air Canada marks a significant step toward restoring global connectivity. With growing passenger demand and improving security conditions, this development offers renewed opportunities for tourism, business, and bilateral relations.
