The Unexpected Ways Lebanon’s Election May Benefit Israel

Following the resignation of Nawaf Salam from his role as president of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, Judge Julia Sebutinde is expected to take over as interim president. Sebutinde, known for her exceptional legal expertise and consistent support for Israel’s positions in the ICJ, brings positive prospects for Israel amidst ongoing legal and diplomatic challenges.

A Proven Ally for Israel at The Hague

At 69, Julia Sebutinde has built a distinguished judicial career, including service on Uganda’s Supreme Court, and is recognized for her steadfast support of Israel’s legal arguments. Among her notable actions, she opposed temporary orders calling for investigations into allegations of ‘genocide’ and the examination of humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza. In cases where Israel faced widespread criticism, Sebutinde often stood alone in defense of its positions, demonstrating remarkable courage and integrity.

Shifts in Regional Dynamics

Nawaf Salam’s resignation from the ICJ followed his appointment as Lebanon’s new prime minister, marking a potential shift in regional dynamics. Although Salam has historically opposed Israel, his leadership could signal a move away from Hezbollah’s dominance and toward more independent and diplomatic governance, potentially paving the way for a more balanced power dynamic in the Middle East.

Faith and Opportunity

With Sebutinde’s rise in the ICJ and Lebanon’s evolving political landscape, Israel finds itself at a pivotal moment of potential progress on the international stage. As Proverbs 21:1 reminds us: “The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord; He directs it like a watercourse wherever He pleases.” May God guide the unfolding events to bring justice, balance, and peace to Israel and the region.
