Israel’s Approach to Three Major Threats: Gaza, Lebanon, and Yemen

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a statement at the start of this morning’s (Sunday) cabinet meeting, declaring that Israel is intensifying military pressure in Gaza to secure the release of hostages: “The cabinet convened and decided to increase the pressure, already heightened, to further crush Hamas and create the optimal conditions for the release of our hostages.”

According to Netanyahu, the combination of military and diplomatic pressure has been the most effective tool for bringing hostages home: “This is the only thing that has led to the return of hostages—not the empty slogans and baseless claims I hear from self-proclaimed experts on TV.”

Netanyahu began his remarks by addressing the three major threats facing Israel: Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, and the Houthi rebels in Yemen. He emphasized that while Israel’s response to each is different, it remains resolute in the face of all three.

‘Three Lies Being Spread About Us, Not One of Which is True’

Netanyahu pushed back against criticism of the way the government has been handling the hostage situation, stating that three major falsehoods are being spread about Israel:

‘We are not negotiating’ – “This is a lie. We are negotiating under fire, and that is precisely why it is effective. We are already seeing cracks in Hamas’ previous inflexibility .”

‘We refuse to discuss the final phase’ – “Another lie. We are prepared. Hamas must lay down its weapons, its leaders must leave, and we will ensure security while advancing Trump’s voluntary emigration plan.”

‘We don’t care about the hostages’ – “This is Hamas propaganda. My wife and I met with four hostage families just this week. We share their pain and are fully committed to bringing everyone home.”

Strict Enforcement in the North as Well

Netanyahu clarified that on the northern border, the IDF has clear orders to act decisively against Hezbollah: “There is strict enforcement in Lebanon. We do not allow even a trickle of attacks, no leniency, and no exceptions. Lebanon is responsible for what happens within its territory—and it must ensure that nothing happens.”

‘We Welcome U.S. Actions’

Regarding the Houthis, Netanyahu praised U.S. operations in Yemen and highlighted the importance of Israel’s strategic alliance with the United States: “We deeply appreciate the powerful actions taken by the United States. We have an alliance with the world’s greatest superpower—and it stands firmly behind us across multiple arenas, without hesitation.”

In closing, Netanyahu reaffirmed Israel’s security doctrine in the near future: strength against its enemies and unwavering determination in the fight to bring the hostages home.
