Health Ministry Updates Guidelines After Another ‘Brain-Eating’ Amoeba Case in Kinneret

The ministry stresses that infection occurs exclusively when contaminated water enters through the nose, not from drinking it or from person-to-person contact.

Given that the amoeba thrives in warm, fresh water and the mortality rate from the infection is extremely high, the ministry recommends avoiding diving, jumping into the water, and stirring up sediment from the bottom, using nose clips, and posting accessible warning signs on beaches.
