Along with additional freed hostages, tomorrow (Thursday) Eitan Mor, who was held captive by Hamas in Gaza for two years minus one day, will meet with U.S. President Donald Trump to thank him for his assistance in bringing the abducted Israelis home. During the meeting, the former hostage will present the president with a dreidel, a gift on behalf of his father, Tzvika Mor, and the Tikvah Forum.

In the letter accompanying the dreidel, Eitan Mor’s father explained why they chose this particular gift:
“As the father of Eitan Mor, and on behalf of the Tikvah Forum of the hostage families, I wish to express our deepest gratitude for your unwavering leadership and your support in bringing our loved ones home,” the father began.

“Your deeds embodied an eternal truth”

“Our children were among the hostages held in Gaza for 738 endless days. The mission of the Tikvah Forum — to secure their release without surrendering to Hamas — was accomplished thanks to your determination to achieve their freedom through strength. In our tradition it is written, ‘I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will bring to ruin’ (Genesis 12:3). Your actions embodied this eternal truth. In the moment when courage was required, you chose strength. When clarity was needed, you offered resolve. And when families like mine were desperate for hope, you helped make that hope real,” he continued.

“As a sign of our appreciation, my family and I wish to present you with a Hanukkah dreidel. This simple object carries within it the ancient Maccabean victory in the Land of Israel, when light overcame darkness and faith triumphed over fear,” Mor wrote.

“I hope you will spin this dreidel with your grandchildren”

Mor suggested that Trump play with the dreidel together with his grandchildren:
“As a father myself, I hope you will spin this dreidel with your grandchildren, and share with them the joy of family, the love passed from generation to generation, and the reminder that our greatest victories — ancient and modern — are achieved through the power of hope for the future of our children. This dreidel is a symbol of continuity, of light, and of the historic role you have played in supporting Israel and the strength of the United States in our time.”

“For generations to come, the Jewish people will remember the leaders who stood by them in their darkest hours. History will remember your role not only as a statesman on the world stage, but as a hero to families who feared they would never again embrace their sons and daughters. The return of our hostages is not only a diplomatic achievement — it is a miracle of compassion, faith, and courage. A triumph of global good over global evil. This is a historic moment, and you will forever be part of this miracle,” the father explained.

Waiting for the Return of the Remaining Three Hostages

“My family’s gratitude is without limit. There are no words that can express what it means that our child has returned to our arms. We are still waiting for the return of the remaining three hostages, including Ran Goili, who entered the battle heroically despite his broken shoulder. Your actions will remain in our prayers, in our history, and in the hearts of the Jewish people. Thank you, President Trump, for blessing our families with the gift of reunion, and for standing with us when it mattered most,” he concluded.
