New details on the Mossad operation in Iran: How Ahmadinejad was extracted in a getaway car after an Israeli attack.
The New York Times reports additional details from February 28, when an Israeli airstrike hit Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s compound in Tehran, striking his armored vehicle and his bodyguards’ building. Immediately afterward, a black Peugeot driven by Mossad agents arrived at the scene and extracted the former president, taking him at high speed to a secret safe house on Iranian territory.
According to the report, Ahmadinejad was upset and disappointed with the Israeli plan to return him to power, left the safe house under mysterious circumstances, and was not seen in public until he appeared this week under heavy security at the funeral of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
